Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and prepare your baking pan with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. Peel and slice the apples into 1/4 inch slices and combine in a large mixing bowl. Add melted butter, flour, water, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt; mix until well combined.
Crumble Topping
  1. In another bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, oats, and flour. Cut cold butter into small pieces and add to this mixture.
  2. Use your hands, a fork, or a pastry cutter to incorporate the butter until it forms crumbles. Then stir in chopped pecans.
Assembly
  1. Transfer the apple mixture to the baking pan and evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
Baking
  1. Bake the crisp in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
  2. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
