- Measure ingredients: Gather and prepare all other ingredients before starting the cooking process.
- Preheat oven: Set your oven to 375 degrees F.
- Boil pasta water: Bring a pot of water to a boil and add salt once boiling.
- Season beef: Sprinkle salt and pepper on the ground beef for flavor.
Cooking
- Cook beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef for 3 minutes.
- Add onion and garlic: Stir in the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened and beef is completely cooked through, about 5-6 minutes.
- Drain grease: Remove any excess grease from the skillet.
- Add tomato paste: Mix in the tomato paste, cooking for 1-2 minutes until it’s well incorporated.
- Add beef broth: Pour in the beef broth and reduce the liquid by half.
- Combine sauce mixture: Stir in the previously prepared sauce mixture and bring to a gentle boil before lowering the heat to a simmer.
- Prepare pasta: While the sauce simmers, boil the pasta until it’s just under al dente.
Assembly
- Mix cheese and pasta: Stir in the Parmesan cheese and a quarter of the mozzarella into the sauce, then add the drained pasta and toss to combine.
- Transfer to baking dish: Pour the pasta and meat mixture into a greased 9 x 13-inch dish.
- Add remaining mozzarella: Top the casserole with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
Final Steps
- Bake and broil: Bake uncovered for 10 minutes, then broil at 450 degrees for an additional 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
- Let stand: Allow the casserole to stand for 5 minutes before serving, garnished with fresh parsley.
- Serve: Enjoy with garlic bread or salad on the side.
