Preparation

  2. Slice each potato into 'fans' by cutting almost through the potato, using a long knife and a large wooden spoon for support.
  3. Place the fanned potatoes on a lined or greased baking sheet, gently pulling the slices apart.
  4. Pour melted butter over each potato, distributing it evenly.
  5. Sprinkle each potato with salt and pepper.
  6. Top each potato with about a tablespoon of shredded cheese, pushing some into the crevices.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes or until tender. Check doneness by inserting a knife into the center of a potato.
